| A linguistics professor was lecturing to his class one
day. "In English," he said, "a double negative forms a positive. In many
languages, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative. However,"
he pointed out, "there is no language wherein a double positive can form
a negative."

| The story is that a few years ago, a computer program for English-Russian translation was put to the test. It was doing pretty well translating random sentences until asked to translate the Bible quotation, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." Someone hit the translate button and the computer typed out "The meat is rotten but they have vodka." |
